Presently, gambling is ilegal in Japan but that could soon change- the japanese government has started talks with some of the world’s largest gaming operators.

The japanese are hoping to open an online and offline casino market sometime after 2010.

Why have the Japanese had a change of heart?

The only forms of gambling that are legal in Japan are horse racing and the lottery. However, the revenues from these are quite low. Casinos both off line and online would generate much higher revenues for the government.

Japan has the highest gross domestic product in Asia. It also has a huge population of about 128 million people if not more! Some see Japan as a potential gold mine!
